Assembly of Altar I pre-orders is in full swing. 60% of pre-orders have completed the first of the two step assembly process. Final assembly begins in mid May, after which pre-orders will ship on a rolling basis. We're also honoured to share that Altar I has received a prestigious Red Dot Award for its design.
Assembly
Pre-order assembly is progressing well. Approximately 60% of pre-orders have completed the first (of two) assembly steps, where the plate, switches, and PCBs are joined together.
All pre-orders will have completed the first step of assembly within the next 2-3 weeks. U.S. layout units will be completed first, followed by U.K. layout units.
Pre-order units will then go through the second, final assembly step starting in mid-May. After this orders will ship on a rolling basis. Pre-orders are anticipated to begin shipping in late May, and run into June 2024.
Altar I wins Red Dot Award
We're incredibly happy to share that Altar I has won a prestigious Red Dot Award for product design.
It's a huge honour to have Altar I recognised for its design on such a global stage. We'll talk more about the award in a future update, but for now we'll say it's amazing to be in the company of other design led organisations like Apple, Polestar, Nothing, and many more.
Minor hardware upgrade
Altar I received a minor hardware upgrade just before assembly began: A gasket has been added between the plate and PCB. This cushions the typing experience slightly, enhances acoustics, and ensures consistent spacing between plate and PCB.
Office move complete
Electronic Materials Office successfully completed the move to a new office in Hackney, East London. Pre-orders are being assembled and shipped from this location.
What's next
Full focus is on completing assembly as soon as possible. Then we'll proceed to fulfilling pre-orders. We're getting close to the end of the road now.
